Saint-Petersburg Phthisiopulmonology State Research Institute is the largest scientific center of the Russian Federation. The institution carries out research and educational activities in the field of phthisiology, related medical and biomedical specialties; providing practical, specialized and high-tech medical care to the population on the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis and non-specific diseases of various localisations and systems in adults and children. The institute has three large clinics: tuberculosis therapy and thoracic surgery; musculoskeletal system diseases surgery, urology, gynecology; osteoarticular tuberculosis surgery in children and adolescents.
At the Thoracic Surgery Center, robotic interventions using the Da Vinci system are widely performed for lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, and bullous emphysema. The clinic has the first world experience in the application of the Da Vinci robot for destructive pulmonary tuberculosis.

How to apply for treatment for foreign citizen

Absentee advisory assistance is provided to citizens of all regions of Russia, the CIS countries and foreign countries at the request of citizens, medical organisations or health authorities.
Documents may be submitted to the Bureau of absentee consultations:
- by post
- by e-mail spbniifbzk@mail.ru
- in person by patient representatives
For absentee consultation you need to provide the following information:
1. Information about the patient:
- Name
- Citizenship
- Address of the registration and/or address of the temporary stay
- Date of birth
- Passport number, validation data
- Number of the obligatory insurance (for Russian citizens or temporary residents only)
- Number of SNILS (for Russian citizens or temporary residents only)
2. Medical Record
3. Data of an X-ray examination no more than 1 month old and an X-ray archive (if available), preferably an electronic version (in DICOM format)
The list of data to be provided by foriegn citizens prior to their departure from the home country for hospitalization
Before the appointment for hospitalization will be provided, foreign citizen should forward the following documents to the medical host organization:
- Passport scan, Visa (if required) ,
- the point and date of border crossing (airport, railway station etc.)
- point of arrival (airport, railway station etc.),
- mean of transport (railway, plane, car etc.),
- birth certificate confirming the relationship, if the patient is a child or other documents that confirm cosinage
